The Farm, Family and Fourth of July

by Paige on July 7, 2009

Last week my sister, the kids and I made the 10 hour drive to visit my family in Mississippi. My grandparents have a large working farm that I spent many of my summers growing up on and learning that farming was probably not going to be my life’s calling. I do love though the memories made there and I love going back for a visit and showing my kids a life outside of Florida.

During this trip we were able to see many of my extended cousins from my Granddaddy’s side. He was the youngest of 6 kids and needless to say they have all multiplied. My Granddaddy Dennis is the man in the middle with the fly swatter (not sure why he has that with him) and all the other folks are his nieces, nephews or children. He is the last living of his siblings and the legacy that this family has left for the future generations is priceless.

When we were not visiting with family the kids and I made a few other memories as well. One of those memories was visiting a chicken house to check on all the chickens and sort a few eggs. I’m pretty sure now working in a chicken house is not what I want to do for the rest of my life. It was a smelly experience to say the least.

After the chicken house excursion we mostly rode the 4 wheelers, sorted butter beans and feasted on hamburgers and watermelon.

I still have much to unpack, pictures to upload and many more stories to tell, but that will have to wait for another day. I’m out of time for now, but thanks for stopping by and I hope to have more updates posted tomorrow.

I pray you too had a wonderful 4th of July and are making memories to last a lifetime.

Sincerely,
Paige
