How are you spending your time?

by Paige on January 29, 2010

How are you spending, wasting or investing your time? This is one of the questions asked in a message titled “The Best Question Ever” which I heard this week by Andy Stanley. Along with this question, Andy posed the following questions as well that have really had me thinking, so I thought you might want a little food for thought today as well. He asked,

  • “What is robbing you from making investments in the thing you need to invest in?”
  • “What do you need to do now?”
  • “What do you need to quit now?”
  • “This is a narrow slice of life and in light of what you have going on right now what is the wisest use of your time so there is value down the road?”
  • “In light of your future hopes and dreams what is the wise thing to do with your time?”

In each question Andy challenges you to ask, “what is the wise thing to do?”  So for instance, in my own life, I’m often struck with a case of procrastination disease, and then wonder why things are so stressful to get done sometime. When really, If I would just ask myself, “is this a wise use of my time?” then I would probably get off of Face Book a lot quicker and actually deal with the things I need to deal with.

Also, as a mom who has lots of dreams and ambitions, I want to often go conquer the world and do everything my little heart desires, but at this season and stage of my life, that is not necessarily wise. I can only do a couple of things well, and if I keep adding things to my life, though they are good, they just are not wise at this season of my life and other things that are more important will most certainly suffer. Like my kids, my house or my marriage.

So in your own life how are you spending your time? Is there something you need to say no to, so that you can say yes to something better? What is one thing you could do today, that would add value to your life in the long run rather than steal your time today? For me, I’ll be facing my bills and paperwork, finding those bills a home and figuring out what will get paid first. Honestly, I’d much rather be at the park with the kids, reading a good book or browsing through pictures on Face Book, but these bills have stolen too much mental energy already and they must be handled:)

If you’d like to listen to the whole series Andy Stanley taught on “The Best Question Ever” just do a search in your itunes store for North Point Ministries/ Andy Stanley. Here’s a link to his church North Point with lots of other great messages as well.

Now go spend your time wisely:)

Sincerely,
Paige
