Anxiety

by Paige on October 22, 2009

I woke up early this morning (4:30 am early:) to the alarm screaming some song I couldn’t understand. We keep an alarm in the living room so someone has to actually get up out of bed and slap it a few times until you finally hit the right button to shut the thing off. Now this is enough to give someone anxiety and for me that is all it took this morning. After I slapped the snooze button a few times to get the alarm to hush, I went back to bed and as soon as I laid down I got a flush feeling in my head, my heart started racing and I had to fight the shakes from chills. Then before I knew it my mind was racing with all kinds of crazy thoughts that of course seemed so true. I just heard recently that Satan only gives you a lie that you will believe and he gave me a whole platter full of lies this morning. Things like, “you feel your head hurting, your family has a history of brain aneurysm, that’s probably what’s going to happen to you.” Then it was the thought, “Your hearts beating awful fast isn’t it, you think your so healthy but if you were then why would your heart beat like that?”

I have not ever dealt with anxiety before in my own life, but my husband has and could recognize my feelings immediately as anxiety. Thankfully through prayer and the Truth of God’s Word he has been set free from anxiety. So, knowing that he could understand, I told him the feelings and thoughts I was having and asked for him to pray for me. As we talked through why this happens he reminded me of several truth’s that I want to share with you. I have no idea who this post is for, maybe it’s you or just someone you know, but if you get nothing else out of it please remember this ANXIETY CAN’T STAND AGAINST TRUTH.

The TRUTH is found  in God’s word and you have to open it, read it and apply it if your going to have victory over anxiety.

In Ephesians 6:12 it says, “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”

This may be news to some of you, but there is a REAL enemy out there, his name is SATAN, and though you can not see him in the flesh he is always lurking around your spirit looking to get into your mind and soul. His favorite way to get in your mind is through fear and anxiety. However, Gods word says we are to be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.

You do not have to allow anxiety to defeat you, you can have authority over anxiety through the word of God, but if you don’t exercise that authority you will loose the battle. So what do you do when the anxiety comes on so quickly?

1. Stand Firm. Put on the whole armor of God, which is found in Ephesians 6: 10-18

2. Be Still and rest in the power of God and the authority he has given you as a believer in Jesus.

3. Tell the anxiety it has to leave you in the name of Jesus. Speak it out loud and say the name of Jesus out loud. There is power and authority in the name of Jesus and the anxious thoughts and feelings have to bow down to the name.

4. Then take a few deep breaths and put on some worship music if you have any and let it flood your mind with more truth.

You can only think about one thing at a time and as you listen to music or read the bible out loud your thoughts and anxious feelings will subside.

Like I said earlier, I have no idea who this is for, but I do know that in our crazy lives and busy world there is bound to be one of you that has dealt with anxiety and are struggling to overcome it. I pray you will dig into your bible today and pull out the truths that speak to you and confess them over your life.

For some of you this may have freaked you out a little, but I hope you will just pray for those who are dealing with anxiety today. I believe God has lots of things for us to accomplish for His kingdom and He needs all of his people ready and able to do the work he has called us to do.

If you were looking for something a little lighter then I invite you to check back tomorrow:) As always though, thank you so much for stopping by my corner of  the web. I appreciate your time SO much! Now go be blessed and tell anxiety to leave you alone!

Sincerely,
Paige

P.S. The anxious feelings I had and thought have gone now. Thank you Jesus. Also please email me if you’d like to talk about this more or would like for me to pray for you. Or leave a comment with how you have overcome anxiety. Thanks! paige@sincerlypaige.com
