Do not worry

by Paige on August 25, 2009

“Do not Worry.” How many times has someone told you this and you think, “yeah right. Have you seen my life? Do you have a clue what I’m dealing with?” These may not be your reactions, but they are often mine, especially when I’m in a dilemma and can’t even seem to figure which way is up. Now, I know it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know what up means, but sometimes in our messes we tend to only look at what is right in front of us and then just hang our head down and cry. Have you ever done this?

This past weekend I have had several conversations with friends or acquaintances that are dealing with some really rough things. Then, last night I watched Glenn Beck’s program, that is airing all week ‘The New Republic: America’s Future,’ (which by the way, if your an American, you all MUST tune into on Fox news  this week and watch his show,) and after watching that late at night it was very easy to take up a few more worries before I went to bed.

So what are you to do when worries engulf you like a tidal wave? Well, I believe you have a few choices. You can just sit still and keep worrying, you can take some action and at least write your worries down, or you can go to the creator of heaven and earth and ask him what you should do and to give you wisdom to know how to do it.

I just read a little statement by author Max Lucado that says, “we should write all our worries down because when you write them down it disrobes them and they look silly standing there naked.” So first write all your worries down so you can clearly see what you are worried about and take some of their power away from them. Then once you have written them down, take a moment to pray and ask God to take these worries and to give you in return the wisdom on what to do with each one of them. James 1:5 says “If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.”

I know worry is  something that most of us have gotten used to carrying around faithfully with us, but it’s time to drop that load and come into agreement with what your creator says about worry. He says in Matthew 6: 33-34

33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

So as you go about today and your tempted to pick up the worry load, just leave it where it is. You have much work to do and people to help and you really don’t have time to bring worry along with you.

Heavenly Father,
Only you know who came across this post today and what exactly they are worried about. I ask you today to take their worries and give them your peace and wisdom in return. Help us to trust you today with all that we have and give us the courage to face today knowing that you are still in total control over all. In Jesus Almighty Name. Amen.

Sincerely,
Paige
