Victory over Defeat

by Paige on August 21, 2009

Some mornings I wake up ready to conquer the world and other mornings I just want to roll back over in bed and sleep until I wake up happy. But what happens when you wake up  again and your still not happy? There is still a mountain of laundry to fold, an even bigger mountain of bills to pay and more things to do in one day than you can  even count. Have you ever woke up feeling like this? Chances are if you’re reading this and over 10 years old then you’ve experienced this a time or two. Sometimes we just need a little victory over our defeat.

I by no means have all the answers to solve life’s problems, but I have learned that one of the first steps to overcoming defeat is to worship. I once read “worship is forgetting about what’s wrong with you and remembering what’s right with God.”  Worshiping God and exalting His name has the power to give you victory over your circumstances. Lately, whenever I’m having issues, which believe it or not is a daily occurrence, I pull out some praise music and soak in it until my circumstances and perspective  have bowed down to almighty God.

I’ve learned that the bigger the problem you have then the bigger expression of praise you should have. So when I’m feeling extra defeated about something I will crank the volume up extra loud and I’ll listen to the music until my heart and mind line up with what the words are saying.  You can only think about one thing at a time and when you worship the negative thoughts have to bow down to the words of praise you are hearing, singing and speaking.

There are all types of music out there that will lead you into the presence of God, you just have to choose which one works best for you. If you for some reason can’t find any to listen to then may I suggest reading the psalms out loud until the words sink deep into your soul. I’ll leave you today with one of my favorite songs and a psalm for you to practice worshiping with. I’m praying for you.

Psalm 100
A psalm. For giving thanks.

1 Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth.

2 Worship the LORD with gladness;
come before him with joyful songs.

3 Know that the LORD is God.
It is he who made us, and we are his [a] ;
we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.

4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving
and his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and praise his name.

5 For the LORD is good and his love endures forever;
his faithfulness continues through all generations.

Sincerely,
Paige
